Virtú Ambiental developed and executed the Degraded Area Recovery Plan (PRAD) of Residencial Mato Grosso, in São Luís-MA, the largest condominium of the "Minha Casa Minha Vida" program in Brazil, with 3,200 housing units distributed in approximately 50 hectares.
The project presented exceptional technical challenges due to the accidental carrying of construction material and erosive processes that impacted 4 large mangrove areas in the vicinity of the project. The complexity of the work involved multiple fronts of action in one of the most sensitive and legally protected ecosystems in the country.
The solutions implemented included specialized engineering for the removal of tons of loaded material, continuous monitoring of the restoration of tide levels and planting conditions, construction of a local nursery for the production of native seedlings, and a training program and hiring of local residents to care for and transplant the seedlings. The project also includes monitoring revegetation and monitoring the return of fauna to the site, ensuring the effective recovery of the ecosystem.
