The Virtú Ambiental, under the leadership of Dr. Isabella Pearce, developed the project to create the Santo Amaro Municipal Park – Portal dos Lençóis Maranhenses. Strategic Conservation Unit. The study established the technical and legal basis necessary to protect the area of dunes and lagoons that borders the National Park, ordering tourism and local preservation. The work involved a project in phases, including technical visits, field survey and topographic delimitation with the necessary precision of the geographic coordinates that delimit the design of the park to carry out a multidisciplinary diagnosis with the complete analysis of the physical, biotic and socioeconomic environment of the area to be created as a park. Finally, Virtú Ambiental also organized and conducted the public hearing with the community, finally resulting in the drafting of the law and definition of use guidelines, resulting in the creation of the park by the City Council. The project shows an effective management instrument that reconciles environmental protection with the sustainable economic development of the region.
