Public Listening

Tukàn Institute Indigenous University

Virtú Ambiental is honored to be a partner of the Tukàn Institute, an indigenous association founded and led by indigenous leaders to create and implement social and educational projects in the Araribóia indigenous territory-MA, with the purpose of generating socioeconomic autonomy and valuing the traditional knowledge of the Tenetehar People, who live in this territory. The director of Virtú, Isabella Pearce, is also the legal director of the Tukàn Institute and has been contributing directly to the actions necessary for the implementation of the University and other projects, many of which receive direct support from the Virtú Ambiental and its team. Of note is the series of public hearings that were carried out between 2024 and 2025, in the Araribóia Indigenous Territory to prepare the Institutional Development Plan of the Indigenous University, and which had among its organization and leadership leaders Dr. Isabella Pearce. Such listening received financial and/or institutional support from FAPEMA (Foundation for the Support of Research and Scientific and Technological Development of Maranhão) and other public and private entities in Maranhão and Brazil, such as UEMA, UFMA, IFMA, Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, etc...
