Public Hearings – Indigenous University of the Tukàn Institute

Virtú Ambiental is honored to partner with the Tukàn Institute, an indigenous association founded and led by indigenous leaders to create and implement social and educational projects in the Araribóia-MA indigenous territory, with the aim of generating socioeconomic autonomy and valuing the traditional knowledge of the Tenetehar people, who live in this territory. Virtú’s director, Isabella Pearce, is also the legal director of the Tukàn Institute and has been directly contributing to the actions necessary for the implementation of the University and other projects, many of which receive direct support from Virtú Ambiental and its team. Of particular note is the series of public hearings held between 2024 and 2025 in the Araribóia Indigenous Territory to develop the Institutional Development Plan for the Indigenous University, which included Dr. Isabella Pearce among its organizational and leadership leaders. These listening sessions received financial and/or institutional support from FAPEMA (Foundation for Research and Scientific and Technological Development of Maranhão) and other public and private entities in Maranhão and Brazil, such as UEMA, UFMA, IFMA, the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, etc.
